Kudos: Dr Stoddard Responds to AED Inquiry

Keywords:

As much as the critics would like to claim, we are simply not about finding fault.  We will proudly give credit as well.

A huge shout out is deserved to Dr. Earl Stoddard on his recent twitter interactions related to AEDs.

After Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsing on the field, and confirmation being provided that he suffered a cardiac event that required CPR and the use of an AED device, it raised reasonable questions within the community on the status of AEDs at Montgomery County Schools and public facilities.

Questions were posed to Dr. Stoddard and Council Member Friedson, both of whom responded.  Dr. Stoddard took it a step further and engaged the response of MCPS Safety.

So hat tip to Dr. Stoddard and his engagement and response to community inquiries.  You can read the entire thread below.

As a follow up to this issue there could be a couple of reasonable next steps both at the county and personal level.

  1. Publish a full audit of the annual inspection MCPS conducts on AEDs
  2. Have MoCo Fire and Rescue make available an audit of AEDs at major county facilities
  3. Identify additional public use areas that would benefit from the presence of AEDs and allocated county funds to procure
  4. Revitalize the MoCo CERT Friends and Family CPR courses
  5. As a resident, find a private provider that offers CPR/AED courses and take a course – it could make a difference on a ball field, in an office, or at a public venue.
