County Exec Celebrates Tax Day, Says Average American Working Nearly Four Months Just to Pay Taxes is “Too Low”

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich celebrated tax filing day (April 15th) with his usual enthusiasm.

“April 15th is a national holiday to me, but frankly, we simply need more and more taxes to bring about utopia.” said the disheveled County Exec in a video accompanying his weekend e-newsletter to county residents.

“I’ve read that the average American works about four months of the year simply to pay all their taxes,” commented Elrich.  The county exec was likely commenting about this piece, posted back in 2017, about how long Americans must work to pay their tax bill.

“This is just too low.  I firmly believe in equity and making everyone pay their fair share.  Except government, well, my government of course.  Neo-serfdom is a great thing to pursue in public policy and can only occur when you work six-plus months a year simply to pay your tax debts.”

“I’ll have some exciting news soon about things we can tax in MoCo.  I really like the idea of taxing pets, and perhaps a tax on live music performances.  I also really really like this tax proposal of taxing ‘Buy Nothing’ transactions.  Great job by the Montgonion for proposing this.”
