CM Laurie-Anne Sayles Appears to Attend Will Jawando’s Mega Church (Its Non-Profit Corp Has Received Thousands in Taxpayer Funding)

Revisiting an earlier topic / investigation today, first published here at CleanSlateMoCo.com.   It is regarding the non-profit arm of an AME mega-church in the Maryland – DC area that is attended by Montgomery County CM Will Jawando and his wife Michelle, and appears to use this connection to a local politician (and his wife, who is on the board of the related non-profit entity) to the maximum:

[From our post in January, 2023] – Page 61 of this document notes that $400,000 in Montgomery County taxpayer money in FY23 will be allocated to “Kingdom Fellowship AME, Inc. [soon to be Kingdom Global Development Corp] to “oversee coordination of organizations in the County to provide comprehensive services to residents.”  Mrs. Jawando’s Kingdom Global Development Corp. was also listed as a partner/coordinator in a $90,000 grant to a non profit that does work at a “hub” in the eastern part of Montgomery County.

The Kingdom Fellowship AME Church is headed by a Senior Pastor, the Reverend Dr. Matthew L. Watley, and it appears to be a powerhouse influence player in Democrat local – and national – politics.  Its “first lady” is a Senior Policy Advisor at Holland & Knight LLP in Washington, DC.  These kinds of Democrat-party aligned lobbyists who call Maryland “home” are feasting on big, activist federal government bloat and its rapacious spending at the national level.  Holland & Knight openly bragged about a record-setting year (2022) in lobbying and legal revenues in January of this year.

Now, it appears the Kingdom Fellowship AME has another powerful connection on the Montgomery County Council in Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles, as evidenced by this Instagram post [screen shot is below]:

During the Easter service, Reverend Dr. Watley did appear to make an interesting connection between those who spend “$500 on an Easter outfit, hair style, and brunch” (what he calls an apparent cost) and those who are frugal and invest in a true “opportunity” cost or invest in themselves for future prosperity.

This message of frugality likely went over the heads of the Montgomery County Councilmembers in attendance… but it is welcome, nonetheless.  Of course, how frugal has this mega-church been with taxpayer dollars?

We’ll continue to follow the County money / “grants” and ask the real investigative questions.  More to come.
